FOUNDER PRESIDENT AIMO
THE ORIGIN :
AIMO owes its existence to the deliberations held at the first all India manufacturers conference organized in Mumbai in March 1941 which appointed a central Committee of industrialists to frame the constitution for the new organization and then prepare a plan of work for the rapid industrialization of the country the central committee named this body as the all India manufacturers Organization (AIMO). The Late. Bharat Ratan, Dr. Sir M. Visvesvaraya, an internationally renowned engineer statesman administrator industrialist and pioneer of modern Industrial planning was the founder president of AIMO.
AIMO has completed 55 years of useful existence and dedicated service to the cause of prosperity the rough industry the organization has about 1000 members all over India having 12 state/Regional boards. AIMO is recognized by the government of India and is recognized on Over 100 advisory committees and councils set up by the central and state governments and is consulted on all economic and policy planning issues it has the unique honor of hosting visits and meetings with highly distinguished luminaries and national leaders including the presidents of India (Shri. V.V. Giri Shri. R Venkataraman) Prime Ministers of India (Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Shri. Lal Bahadur Shashtri Smt. Indira Gandhi Shri. Rajiv Gandhi Shri. Morarji Desai and Shri. P. V. Narasimha Rao) and a host of union cabinet ministers chief ministers governors of various states leaders/heads of various specialized national and international institutes/delegations Ambassador’s consular trade band industry representatives etc whose views and advice have helped AIMO in propagating rapid and qualitative industrialization of the country through various successive five year plans.

THE ORGANIZATION:
AIMO is an apex organization of manufacturers and is recognized as an effective spokesman of India and by the state governments. The organization is respective by the policy makers due to the national perspective that has been adopted by the AIMO since its inception prosperity through industry is the motto of the organization in accordance with this motto AIMO has over the years promoted Industrial and economic development of the country.

It is significant to mention that the India’s First ever world trade centre Mumbai which is named after Sir. M. Visvesvaraya as M. Visvesvaraya industrial research & Development centre (MVIRDC, in short) is the outcome of the initiative taken by AIMO for promotion of international trade.
Co-operation and goodwill it is a matter of Pride that WTC Mumbai is now an exciting Reality equipped with latest facilities, sophisticated technology and services.
In recognition of the significant contribution that AIMO has been making towards the formulations and shaping of the polices of the government, for the betterment of the industry, it has been given representation on various government councils and committees. The representatives and nominees of AIMO ventilate the grievances and collective problems of industrial and commercial houses and assist the government in evolving suitable modifications in its policies and programmers. In addition to these, the councils and committees of AIMO, both at the central and state levels, developed a continuous rapport and dialogue between men in authority and those in industry and business. Almost all the state governments and the relevant ministries in the central government have made it a practice to meet AIMO representatives regularly. These meetings are found useful in maintaining and developing a continuous relationship between the Government and the AIMO members.

THE OBJECTS :

THE SERVICE TO MEMBERS :
· Assist its members in solving their complex problems that confront them as also provide guidance in the matters of locating proper and inexpensive sources of raw materials, suppliers of modern equipments, study of labour laws, taxation, tariff, customs, excise duties etc.
· Take up the collective problems with the concerned authorities and arrange to get speedy relief for genuine difficulties of industrial and commercial houses. The main thrust of work is to influence the thinking at policy level with a view to obtain suitable liberalization of the policies of the Government. To facilitate this work, AIMO has constituted a number of councils and committees, which function under the chairmanship of learned, seasoned and well known industrialist and professionals. These councils and committees advice the secretariat in preparing a critical analysis of the problems affecting a wide spectrum of the business community and in the preparation of effective memoranda/representations to Government, for securing quick redressal of the problems.
· Organize periodically expositions, meetings, seminars and symposia on subjects of topical importance, often of enduring merit, where decision makers from Government, industrialists and professionals meet and share their thoughts. The consensus arrived at in these deliberations and the recommendations based on the consensus are sent to Government and many a time Government reacts positively to them.
· Organize special training workshops/programmers where specific skills and attitudes are imparted to the participants with a view to develop specialization in their chosen field of work.
· Organize dialogue meetings with Government authorities, independent national and international experts on subjects of interest to the members, industry and business.
· Receive foreign delegations and send Indian delegations abroad to explore opportunities for development of exports, industrial investment and joint collaborations.
· Sponsor/co-sponsor research on topics of national interest.
· Prepare and publish periodical information bulletins and other publications covering research findings, and briefs of the seminars, symposia and dialogues which are organized from time to time.

LIBRARY FACILITIES :
Books, journals, magazines and directories on important subjects are collected, compiled and stored for reference and taking out copies for the benefit of members.

HOW THE AIMO FUNCTIONS
The Business of AIMO is managed by a Central Committee and a Working Committee. The Central Committee is the principal policy-making and decision-making organ of AIMO vested with the full authority of and to act on behalf of the General body. It examines and approves the overall financial position and takes such action as is necessary to promote the objectives and polices of AIMO. The newly elected President, Senior Vice President, all Office-bearers, past Presidents, Zonal Vice Presidents, State Boards Chairmen of current financial year and the elected State Board representatives to the nucleus of the Central Committee.
The Working Committee is the chief executive authority to carry on the work and programmers of the Organization on accordance with the policies laid down by the Central Committee. The size of the Working Committee normally does not exceed 100 members of the Organization. The nucleus of the Working Committee comprises the President, Senior Vice President and Office-bearers, four nominees of the Presidents, Chairman of each State Board of his nominees, office-bearers of the Central Organization for the immediately preceding year and Hon. Chairmen of Special Councils and Committees of the immediately preceding year.
